– We are making use of modern stud technology in the Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT3. The tire has the world's first stainless steel studs that prevent corrosion and enable the tire to last longer than usual on salted roads, says Head of Product Management Marko Saari from Nokian Tyres.
In order to improve durability, the stud length has been increased to 13 millimeters on the Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT3, while the tread depth has been increased up to 13.5 millimeters – and up to 14.5 millimeters on the higher load index models (>121). The strong LT body structure, heavy duty Arctic Grip rubber compound, and impact-resistant Aramid Sidewall Technology ensure, for their part, that the tire can perform good in any situation.
The speed rating for the Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT3 is Q (160km/h). The tire's size selection contains 16 products between 16 and 20 inches.

Nokian Tyres' most advanced non-studded winter tire is the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3, which took second place in Tuulilasi magazine's (10/2019) test. In particular, the magazine commended the tire's grip on snow and ice. The tire also achieved the test's best braking results on wet asphalt at zero-degree temperatures.
The Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3 and Hakkapeliitta R3 SUV are next-generation non-studded winter tires that strike a perfect balance between driving comfort and safety. The various sipes of the Arctic Sense Grip concept and the Cryo Crystal 3 grip particles combine to provide excellent grip on ice and balanced handling on snow and wet roads alike. The small, biodegradable particles in the rubber compound act similarly to studs, improving lateral and longitudinal grip on icy roads in particular.
The Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3 has a speed rating of R (170 km/h), while profiles of 45 and lower have a speed rating of T (190 km/h). The comprehensive size selection includes nearly 70 products between 14 and 21 inches, and low rolling resistance makes the tire very fuel efficient.
