New EU tyre label
New EU tyre label
Safety, savings´and environmental efficiency
Starting in November 2012, buying new tyres in the European Union will be made easier by the new tyre labels that are similar to the energy labels for household appliances.
The labels will guide consumers towards acquiring tyres that are of higher quality and, therefore, safer. In the future, the classifications will be clearly visible in all tyre-related materials and at points of sale. The tyre label provides no added value for consumers using winter tyres in demanding and varying winter conditions. Instead, it may be misleading and endanger traffic safety. The regulation applies to non-studded winter tyres, but not to studded tyres.
The tyre label take into account three characteristics:
Information to support your tyre choice
When selecting a tyre, always choose one that matches your usage in the best possible way. In addition to the three properties in the EU tyre labels, there are a number of factors related to safety, performance and the environment that tyre developers take into account. Although the new labels make it easier to compare tyre models, you should also support your decision by consulting the following professional tyre retailers, indebendent magazine tests, and tyre manufacturers.
Winter tyres and northern conditions
The new tyre label do not take into account the real winter conditions. In demanding and varying winter conditions, the most important safety characteristics for tyres are ice grip and snow grip. It is important for the safety of consumers to buy the correct tyres for the correct conditions.
The new tyre label apply to tyres for passenger cars, 4x4s, vans, trucks, and buses that are manufactured after 1 July 2012 and that are approved for road use.
