TAILORED SPECIAL EXPERTISE FROM THE NORTH

COMFORT FOR THE DRIVER AND THE ENVIRONMENT

Nokian Heavy Tyres’ product development stems from 80 years of expertise in the field of winter tires and a thorough understanding of the extreme conditions. Experience with the changing seasons, the harsh northern environment and long-term product development efforts focusing on carefully selected product segments have made Nokian Heavy Tyres one of the world-leading special tire manufacturers.

TIGHT GRIP OF THE ACTUAL OPERATING ENVIRONMENT

A comprehensive understanding of your machinery and equipment base, daily work and the demands of the working environment is paramount in the development of new innovations. That’s why our product development is conducted in close co-operation with the customers. What’s more, our extensive field follow-up provides us with valuable input. All tires on the market undergo field testing, and their properties are continuously improved based on the results.

In the development of heavy tires, we place special focus on radial special tires alongside the traditional bias tires. The development of a special tire is like a tailor’s work; the development needs come from the customer. We respond to these needs, relying on our years of experience and the consequent expertise, creative passion and the latest technology.

PERSISTENT LONG-TERM DEVELOPMENT

The cornerstones of tire design and development are functionality, efficiency, reliability and long operating life. New innovations are developed to further improve the materials, treads, structure and quality of tires as well as our testing practices, customer service and production. Environmental issues are continuously increasing in importance, and thus driving the tire design process.

Close contacts with the other Nokian Tyres product families generate significant synergies for the heavy tire development work. Customer feedback collected from the field is immediately reviewed and analyzed. In order to provide end-users with the best tools now and in the future, we conduct close co-operation in the field of product development with machine manufacturers and other partners.

TESTING ALL YEAR ROUND, AROUND THE WORLD

Testing is an essential element of product development. Our tires undergo rigorous testing in genuine working conditions, without cutting any corners or compromising precision. In addition, indoor testing is used for additional data. We test our products all year round, around the world.

The indoor testing focuses on the structural durability, rolling resistance and noise levels, as well as contact area and surface pressure. But the real-life tests on fields, in forests, mines, and harbors give us information on grip, wear-resistance and handling properties in different temperatures and on different surfaces.

COMFORT FOR THE DRIVER AND THE ENVIRONMENT

Effortlessly forward

Effortlessly forward

Low rolling resistance means that our tires roll effortlessly, which reduces fuel consumption and lowers CO2 emissions. A special testing machine is used in measuring the rolling resistance of our tires.

Lower surface pressure

Lower surface pressure

The weight of the machines and footprint left by the tires causes soil compaction, which decreases crops and increases the environmental load. In the forest, roots can be damaged. When we aim to minimize the surface pressure, the tire must have a large contact area. Flotation tires, for example, have a large contact area but also a low rolling resistance. These tires save nearly 20 % of fuel compared to bias tires. In other words, the tires help gain bigger crops while saving fuel and the environment.

Proven to be more comfortable

Proven to be more comfortable

Everybody has the right for ergonomic working conditions. Besides driving properties, the elimination of noise and vibration is essential. The latter is particularly important in forestry machines and during on-road transition drives. Nokian Tyres tires have proven to be a more comfortable choice. For example, the Nokian Tyres Forest Rider forestry tire has won several tests by different institutes.

MARKET LEADER AND FRONT-RUNNER IN FORESTRY TIRES

Nokian Heavy Tyres is the global market leader in forestry tires. The company has designed special tires for forestry machines that use the CTL (cut-to-length) method, developed in the Nordic countries, since the 1960s. Its product range includes tires for cut-to-length (CTL) as well as full-tree (FT) machines, such as skidders. The range also includes special tires for tractors used partly or mainly in the forest. Nokian Tyres products are known for their extremely high quality that guarantees a long service life and reliable functionality for a variety of uses and conditions.
