In the claws of winter
If after the summer, used winter tyres are fitted to your car, they should be checked thoroughly. It is important to check both the tread depth and the condition of the studs on studded tyres. Tread depth is measured at the main grooves, which means the wider grooves at the centre of the tread which cover about 3/4 of the tread's width.
Studded tyres and friction tyres have quite different characteristics, so when buying new tyres it is worth pausing to consider one's own style of driving and the conditions in which the vehicle will most commonly be used. Winter tyres differ from tyres marked MS (Mud & snow).
Innovations improve the safety of tyres
Ice, snow, and changing conditions mean that winter tyres must be reliable and durable. Nokian's studded and friction winter tyres feature many innovations that make them the right choice for Nordic winter driving. For example, the square stud and the ”bear claw” both enhance the grip of studded tyres, and the pump sipe ensures that friction tyres remain in contact with the road.
Studded and studless winter tyres for cars are some of Nokian Tyre's key products. Winter tyres account for over 80% of this unit's turnover. Nokian's winter tyres represent the master work of the experts in Nordic conditions, and product development is guided by the principle of sustainable safety.
A tyre's journey to the customer takes many twists and turns
The tyre manufacturing process is complicated, and involves the transformation of raw materials into the finished product. All tyres are checked both visually and mechanically, and then tested in real winter conditions at Nokian Tyre's own test track at Ivalo, Finland.
The winter tyre sector is seasonal in nature, and with its efficient distribution network Nokian Tyres aims to guarantee customers access to the very tyres they need, just when they need them. Nokian's Hakkapeliitta winter tyre family represents the peak of tyre design, and is the result of years of development, expertise and professionalism, from the production line to the winter road.
