Aquaplaning is a challenge for summer tyres

In dry summer conditions it's not so important to pay much attention to tyres, but the connoiseur of Nordic conditions knows that even in summer conditions can suddenly become challenging. Just as snow and ice challenge a tyre in winter, so heavy rain and surface water provide their own challenges at other times of the year. From the point of view of road safety, it is important that the car is fitted with tyres of appropriate tread depth and which have characteristics suitable for the prevailing conditions. Nokian Tyre's innovation, the wear and aquaplaning warning mark, helps in monitoring and checking the tread depth of the tyre.

A car will aquaplane when the tread pattern of its tyres is unable to remove water from under the tyre at a sufficient rate, and the vehicle will then be riding on a layer of water. Aquaplaning can best be prevented by fitting new summer tyres, and by adjusting one's speed to the prevailing road conditions.
