A complementary duo – CTIS system and Nokian Tyres Soil King VF tires

The tire pressure adjustment system, or CTIS, allows you to easily adjust tire pressure to suit the requirements of your working conditions. The system gives the most value with tires that are optimized for both field and road conditions – such as Nokian Tyres Soil King VF.
During a typical working day, an agricultural tractor is driven on a range of different surfaces from hard tarmac to soft field. Easy optimization of tire pressure between different applications reduces soil compaction, improves fuel efficiency and extends tire life – while reducing the carbon footprint.
The ability to quickly adjust the tire pressure for different conditions also improves traction and stability, making it a valuable tool for farmers working in different terrains and conditions. However, in addition to the CTIS system, the choice of tires also plays a big role in the overall performance.
"It is worth bearing in mind that the value provided by the system largely depends on the suitability of the tire," reminds Tero Saari, Product Manager at Nokian Tyres.
"Soil King VF is 'CTIS Ready' in an advanced way. Its Flexforce VF technology combines high flexibility and strength in a unique way, providing top performance at different pressure levels."
Strength brings stability
At the heart of Flexforce VF technology is an advanced carcass structure that enables controlled tire deformation and supports the desired characteristics at different tire pressures.
"When working in the field and the tire pressure is lowered, the profile of a Flexforce tire effectively flattens, allowing for maximum tread pattern contact with the ground. The tire has a large pattern contact as it is, but it improves further as the pressure is reduced," says Saari.
The strength of the structure also improves the traction and handling stability of the pattern at low tire pressures.
The new era of tires for CTIS systems
Low tire rolling resistance is a desirable feature in both field work and road transport, as it means lower energy consumption and power losses. In a comparison test conducted by a neutral research institute (DLG), Soil King VF tires were found to reduce tractor fuel consumption compared to competing premium VF tires in both field and transport use.
"The Nokian Tyres Soil King VF tire has been designed from the ground up to best complement the central tire inflation system. The special tread pattern combines features for both field and road – a new era of tires for CTIS systems," Tero Saari sums it up.
