Nokian winter tyre rated “good” in the 2013 winter tyre test by the German automobile club ADAC and by the consumer protection organisation Stiftung Warentest

Achieving the top rating “especially recommended” puts Nokian amongst the best

Top rating “Especially recommended” by the German car magazine auto motor sport

The Nokian WR D3 winter tyre scores the top rating “good” and is thus “especially recommended” in the 2013 winter tyre test of the German automobile club ADAC and the consumer protection organisation Stiftung Warentest, and is amongst the best. The Nokian WR D3 is rated “Especially recommended” by the German car magazine auto motor sport. Rated “good”, the Nokian is awarded the best assessment by ADAC, which it also received from auto motor sport. Its strengths in the ADAC test: “+ Very balanced, + Top rating on dry roads, + Good on wet surfaces and snow.” Europe’s largest automobile club found no weaknesses. The Nokian strength “very balanced” ensures that cars drive safely in all winter conditions and also especially in bad weather.

“Highly recommended” and runner-up are the result for the Nokian tyre from Finland in the German car magazine Auto Zeitung, “Especially recommended” in AUTO. It is rated “Recommended” by the German car magazines Auto Bild and Auto Bild allrad, and “good” by Auto Bild sportscars.

The new Nokian WR SUV 3 high performance winter tyre is the test winner in the big SUV winter tyre test 2013 by the German SUV magazine OFF ROAD, with the top rating “highly recommended”. It also crosses the finish line in first place in German SUV MAGAZIN.
“Recommended” is the rating awarded by Auto Club Europa ACE and GTUE, Germany’s largest officially recognised inspection organisation of freelance certified inspectors, for the Nokian WR D3 for cars, and is also recommended along with the Nokian WR A3 by the German Volkswagen and Audi magazine gute Fahrt.

ADAC rating “good” for Nokian on snow, ice, and wet and dry surfaces, as well as for fuel consumption and wear

The Nokian is rated “good” by the ADAC in all of these important test criteria: snow, ice, wet and dry, fuel consumption, and wear. It is also awarded the grade “good” by Stiftung Warentest in the same criteria. Accordingly, the test results confirm the well-known excellent Nokian product properties of high driving safety and green eco friendliness. Achieving the top rating on dry surfaces of 1.7, the Nokian winter tyre pleases those motorists who like to drive fast but also safely in the winter.

The auto motor sport result is: “+ top braking scores, precise handling on dry roads, safe”. AUTO found the same strengths. Auto Zeitung comments: “Its exceptionally well balanced properties secure the Finnish winter professional, the Nokian WR D3, in second place in this test”. Snow: “Maximum traction and very high directional control characterise the Nokian, which ensures a sporty, agile drive even on snow”. Excellent performance on wet surfaces. “Ensures stable cornering and creates trust”.

For Auto Bild, the Nokian WR D3 is one of the “Best of the Best” and a true winner: “Strengths: Winter tread with good steering precision and short braking distances on snow and on dry roads, good aquaplaning safety reserves, low rolling resistance”. Auto Bild sportscars writes: “Strengths: dynamically sporty handling qualities with precise steering on dry road surfaces, short dry braking distances. Balanced safe driving behaviour on wet surfaces. Low rolling resistance.” Auto Bild allrad highlights “strengths: Very high aquaplaning safety, almost as good as a summer tyre in dry properties”.

The “gute Fahrt recommendation” for the Nokian WR D3/A3 reads: “Especially on snow, the Nokian shows that the Finns really know their stuff. An outstanding feature here is the traction, and the handling is neutral. It is also good in both wet and dry conditions”.

The Nokian WR SUV winter tyre has the following noted as “strength: The performance on snow and ice is outstanding, totally convincing on asphalt.” High praise from the leading four-wheel drive, all-terrain vehicle and SUV magazine. “Nokian: Unbeatable on snow and ice” and “very neutral”. The Nokian achieved the best scores of all the tyres in the test, in all the test disciplines: “Snow 2+, ice 1-, wet surfaces 2+, dry surfaces 2+. Overall rating: 2+.” SUV MAGAZIN publishes the same results.

“Highly recommended” is also the assessment for the Nokian WR D3 from the Austrian automobile club ÖAMTC and from the Swiss touring club TCS, and “good” from the Austrian consumer magazine Konsument. “Recommended” is the rating from the Austrian automobile club ARBÖ.

Nokian winter tyres are the test winners in the 2012 winter tyre tests by auto motor sport and Auto Bild

Nokian winter tyres are the test winners in the 2012 winter tyre tests by the German car magazines auto motor sport, Auto Bild and AUTO. In more than 20 winter tyre tests that were carried out by car magazines in Germany and other European countries last winter, Nokian tyres came out on top. This underscores the high quality of the world’s leading winter tyre specialist and confirms the good image that this Nordic premium brand enjoys.

The new generation of Nokian Hakkapeliitta winter tyres for the harshest of winter conditions have also already been rated the best in winter tyre tests this winter. The Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 studded tyre was rated the best by the Finnish car magazines Tekniikan Maailma (16/2013) and Tuulilasi (12/2013) and by the Swedish magazines Vi Bilägare (13/2013), Auto, Motor & Sport (21/2013) and by the Norwegian car magazines Motor (7/2013), Auto, Motor og Sport (8/2013) and also by the Ukrainian car magazine Auto Centre (41/2013). Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2, the new non-studded winter tyre was also rated the best by Finnish car magazine Tuulilasi (13/2013) and by the Swedish car magazines Vi Bilägare (14/2013), Auto, Motor & Sport (22/2013), Teknikens Värld (22/2013) and also by the Russian car magazine Autoreview (19/2013). Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 and Hakkapeliitta R2 without studs were rated the best by Russia’s leading motoring magazine Za Rulem (9/2013 and 10/2013). In Central Europe, they are ideal for driving in regions with lots of snow, ice, and slush.

The ADAC and Stiftung Warentest tested 17 winter tyres for compact cars in the dimension 185/60 R 15 T and 15 winter tyres for medium-class cars in the dimension 225/45 R 17 H, in which the Nokian WR D3 was rated “recommended” in the second dimension. auto motor sport and AUTO compared eight winter tyres in the dimension 225/50 R 17 H/V. The test by Auto Zeitung also included eight candidates which tested tyres in the dimension 195/65 R 15 T. Auto Bild conducted a mega winter tyre test featuring now fewer than 50 products in the best-selling format 195/65 R 15. Auto Bild sportscars put nine tyres with sporty tread patterns in the popular dimension 225/50 R 17 V through their paces. The test by Auto Bild allrad included 10 candidates in the dimension 215/65 R 16. OFF ROAD and SUV MAGAZIN tested six SUV winter tyres in the dimension 235/65 R 17. Auto Club Europa ACE and GTÜ tested nine winter tyres in the dimension 185/60 R 15.

Unique innovations: Nokian Driving Safety Indicator (DSI) with the unique snowflake symbol, the Winter Safety Indicator boosts safety, and slush blower blows away slush and water

Nokian’s winter tyre expertise is proved by unique innovations incorporated in the Nokian WR A3, WR D3, the new WR SUV 3 and the almost 80 years of experience of the inventor of the winter tyre and is reaffirmed every year by their outstanding test results. The Nokian Driving Safety Indicator (DSI) with the unique snowflake symbol, the Winter Safety Indicator, on the Nokian WR winter tyre clearly shows the driver the groove depth as a number from 8 to 4 millimetres. The grooves must be a minimum of 4 millimetres deep in order to provide enough grip on snow and to prevent slush planing and aquaplaning. The snowflake remains visible down to 4 millimetres. When it disappears, risk increases and the winter tyres should be replaced. No other tyre manufacturer has these innovations.

The Nokian WR D3 uses a slush blower to protect against aquaplaning on slushy surfaces. The slush blower blows slush and water out of the grooves of the tyre and makes driving safer. What is more, polished grooves remove slush and water faster.

The low-temperature canola oil tread compound of the Nokian WR winter tyre is a new combination of canola oil, natural rubber, and silica, which ensures ultra-firm grip on snow, ice, and wet surfaces in addition to high wear resistance in changing and particularly low temperatures. Thanks to the firmer nanobase, the sporty Nokian WR A3 drives safely, stably, and highly responsively, including at higher speeds and when cornering and changing lanes.

Snow claws integrated into the Nokian WR SUV 3 claw themselves firmly into the snow to provide an exceptionally high level of grip on snow and ice. 3D lock sipes enhance the handling of the Nokian winter tyres when cornering and swerving. The 3D lock sipes lock the tread bars together, thus reducing their movement. This technology also increases the wear resistance of the tyre.

Subjected to the toughest of testing, the eco-friendly winter tyres Nokian WR ensure enhanced slush planing protection, plus ultra-firm grip on snow, ice, and wet roads

Being the most northern tyre manufacturer, Nokian is the ultimate winter tyre expert for all winter conditions. “Subjected to the toughest of testing in extreme winter conditions in the biting frost, on slippery snow and smooth ice at our test centre called “White Hell” in the Finnish part of Lapland and in slippery, wet slush, on treacherously wet surfaces and rough dry surfaces in Southern Finland, Nokian tyres ensure the utmost safety”, explains development manager Juha Pirhonen. The Nordic premium brand also conducts extensive tests on natural ice on roads and on frozen lakes.

Nokian’s unique slush planing tests optimise the grip of the winter tyres. Aquaplaning on slushy roads is the most dangerous driving situation for Central European motorists in the winter. Nokian has been conducting slush tests for 15 years, is regarded as a pioneer in this area, and today has exact test methods. This specialist is the only tyre manufacturer to have a unique test track, where the effects of slush planing can be tested both longitudinally and transversely. No other tyre producer conducts slush tests during tyre development or tests on natural ice.

Standard Nokian winter tyres set a new Guinness world record Fastest on Ice by reaching a top speed of 335.713 km/h. The high level of research and development, state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques, and ultra-extreme testing pay off in the high quality of Nokian tyres. This is why their test results are so outstanding in the test reports of the various magazines.

Nokian tyres are available from local tyre service companies, including as complete wheels on rims. Motorists should replace their old winter tyres with new ones on reaching a tread depth of four millimetres.

Nokian Tyres is the world's leading winter tyre specialist, a multiple test winner, and a premium brand

As the world's leading winter tyre specialist, a multiple test winner, and a premium brand, Nokian Tyres offers the safest tyres for Northern conditions. Innovative Nokian tyres from Finland for cars, trucks, and heavy machinery demonstrate their high quality particularly well in snow, tough climates, and demanding driving situations, and deliver sustainable added value. In addition, Nokian produces tyres especially developed for European weather and the higher speeds on European motorways. Nokian tyres deliver excellent safety, save fuel, and are the forerunner of environmental friendliness. The company is number 1 in terms of brand recognition and appreciation in Scandinavia and Russia and has a positive, exceptional image.

Nokian is the inventor of the winter tyre

Nokian has been designing, testing, and patenting innovative tyres for more than 75 years and is the inventor of the winter tyre. The world's first winter tyre was developed and manufactured in the midst of icy winds and bitter cold in 1934. Two years later, Nokian Hakkapeliitta was created for harsh northern winters and is today one of the best-known winter tyre brands. The world's fastest winter tyre with a top speed of 270 km/h, the Nokian WR, was launched by the Finns in 2002. In 2007, the Nokian WR G2 was introduced and was rated as "highly recommended" and "good" in tests for its outstanding grip and unique protection against slush planing. Its success story continues with the safe and economical Nokian WR D3 for the compact and middle-sized class and small cars, as well as with the safe and sporty WR A3 for large, fast cars.

Nokian winter tyre rated “good” in the 2013 winter tyre test by the German automobile club ADAC and by the consumer protection organisation Stiftung Warentest

The Nokian WR D3 winter tyre scores the top rating “good”, and is thus “especially recommended” in the 2013 winter tyre test of the German automobile club ADAC and the consumer protection organisation Stiftung Warentest and is amongst the best. The Nokian WR D3 is rated “Especially recommended” by the German car magazine auto motor sport. Rated “good”, the Nokian is awarded the best ADAC assessment, which it also received from auto motor sport. Its strengths in the ADAC test: “+ Very balanced, + Top rating on dry roads, + Good on wet surfaces and on snow.” Europe’s largest automobile club found no weaknesses. The Nokian strength “very balanced” ensures that cars drive safely in all winter conditions and also especially in bad weather.
“Highly recommended” and runner-up reads the result for the Nokian tyre from Finland in the German car magazine Auto Zeitung, “Especially recommended” in AUTO. It is rated “Recommended” by the German car magazines Auto Bild and Auto Bild allrad, and “good” by Auto Bild sportscars.
The new Nokian WR SUV 3 high performance winter tyre comes out on top in the big SUV winter tyre test 2013 by OFF ROAD, with the top rating “highly recommended”.

Nokian winter tyres are the test winners in the 2012 winter tyre tests

Nokian winter tyres are the test winners in the 2012 winter tyre tests conducted by the German car magazines Auto Bild, auto motor sport, and AUTOStraßenverkehr earning top ratings of “exemplary”, “highly recommended”, and “very good”. In more than 20 winter tyre tests carried out by car magazines in Germany and other European countries last winter, Nokian tyres came out on top. The Finnish tyres are given the top rating of “good” by the German automobile club ADAC and consumer protection organisation Stiftung Warentest.
Auto Bild praises the Nokian WR A3: “Strengths: exemplary handling qualities on snowy, wet and dry surfaces, stable directional control and precise steering response, shortest wet and dry braking distances, low fuel consumption”. The “auto motor sport” assessment for the Nokian WR D3 is: “Outstanding performance on snow, short braking distance on dry surfaces, balanced handling”.
Nokian is also the test winner for the German company car magazine Firmenauto (11/2012). “Highly recommended” is also the assessment of the Nokian tyre in the 2012 winter tyre tests carried out by the German car magazine Auto Zeitung, Auto Club Europa ACE, GTÜ, ÖAMTC, TCS and ARBÖ as well as “very good” in the tests conducted by the German car magazines promobil, Firmenauto Transporter and lastauto omnibus Transporter. It also wins the gute fahrt recommendation for “the best tyres” from the German car magazine gute fahrt.
In the 2011 winter tyre tests, Nokian winter tyres were also test winners.
Standard Nokian winter tyres set a new Guinness world record Fastest on Ice by reaching a top speed of 335.713 km/h.

Increased safety through innovations: Winter Safety Indicator with snowflake and Driving Safety Indicator (DSI) with aquaplaning warning

The Nokian Driving Safety Indicator (DSI) with the unique snowflake symbol, the Winter Safety Indicator, on the Nokian WR winter tyre clearly shows the driver the groove depth as a number from 8 to 4 millimetres. The snowflake remains visible down to 4 millimetres. When it disappears, the risk increases and the winter tyres should be replaced. The grooves must be a minimum of 4 millimetres deep in order to provide enough grip on snow and to prevent slush planing and aquaplaning on winter and summer tyres.
The Driving Safety Indicator on the Nokian summer tyres shows the driver the tread depth as a simple figure from 8 to 3. An aquaplaning alert within this warns of the danger of aquaplaning with a drop symbol. It disappears when there are only four millimetres of remaining tread, alerting the driver of the increased risk. No other tyre manufacturer has these innovations.
