How DSI and WSI Works

Nokian Tyres' DSI (Driving Safety Indicator) and WSI (Winter Safety Indicator) are located on the centre surface of the tire and shows the depth of the tire's main groove in millimetres that help you monitor the condition of your tires.

These symbols come in two variations:

  • Rain drop for summer tires
  • Snowflake for winter tires

As the tire wears down, these symbols gradually fade away, indicating the remaining tread depth, helping you keep track of your tire's condition and ensuring optimal performance and safety.

Why is Tread Depth Important?

Tread depth is essential for ensuring your tires provide optimal grip and performance on the road. As tires wear down, their ability to handle wet and slippery conditions decreases. When is it time to get new tires?

For DSI (Driving Safety Indicator)

When the number "4" wears away, it indicates that the tire's aquaplaning capabilities are no longer optimal, and it's time to consider replacing the tire.  

When water drop symbol wears away, the tire should be replaced immediately. 

For WSI (Winter Safety Indicator)

For winter tires, the WSI includes a snowflake symbol. When this symbol wears away, it signals that the tire is no longer optimal for winter conditions and should be replaced.
